Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang … Chitty, chitty, bang bang … we love you … and so much so, in 2020, ‘Beaulieu’ was named the fifth most beautiful village in the UK

There is lots to see and do at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu in the New Forest. The classics from Top Gear, to Mr Beans mini to Del Boys three wheeler, “one day Rodney”, to Formula One racing cars, the classics, the luxury, the quirky, the museum with iconic recording breakers include the 350hp and 1,000hp Sunbeams, Golden Arrow and Bluebird CR7. See how cars work, the design, construction, safety, the future, it has it all. This is an all day adventure. My kids enjoyed the retro monorail (opening in 1974)

Couple this with Beaulieu Abbey. An 800 year old Abbey founded by King John in the 13th Century, before being destroyed on the orders of King Henry VIII in 1538.

The Abbey is now a conserved ruin where generations of visitors enjoy the medieval architecture and the Palace House, the gatehouse:

In an idyllic New Forest setting, overlooking the picturesque Beaulieu River millpond, Palace House was remodelled during the 1800s and a fine example of a Victorian country house. Inside, its ecclesiastical heritage sets the grand gothic tone for a home bristling with character and adorned with treasures, portraits, and memorabilia.

Beaulieu is a great day out, not just the incredible National Motor Museum (one of only 5 in Europe) but also the village dates back to the 13th Century growing up around the Abbey (founded in 1204) by the Cistercian Monks, who tended the medieval gardens and traded goods.

Beaulieu is situated in the New Forest National Park in Hampshire. to the east of Brockenhurst, between Ringwood and Southampton, accessed from the M27 and A35.
